4 Can or must the matrimonial property regime be registered?
4.1. Do one or more matrimonial property registers exist in your country? Where?
There is a register for matrimonial matters in Finland, which covers the entire nation. The local government authority, i.e. the civil registry office, functions as the register authority
4.2. Which documents are registered? Which information is registered?
The marital agreement document is entered into the register for matrimonial matters. Thus, information on the signing date of the marital agreement and all of the content regulations will be entered into the register.
4.3. How and by whom can the information in the register be accessed?
Anyone is entitled to receive information on whether the spouses have a valid marital agreement and on its contents.
4.4. What are the legal effects of registration (validity, opposability)?
The marital agreement will not take effect before it is registered (§ 44 Marriage Act).
