7 Does your national law provide a special matrimonial property regime for multi-national couples?

An agreement signed on 4 February 2010, that entered into force in France on 1 May 2013 resulting from the cooperation of French and German Ministers for Justice, created an additional, optional matrimonial property regime, based on the participation in acquisitions regimes that exist in France and Germany.

During the marriage, the spouses will come under the separation of property regime. Upon its dissolution, each spouse will be entitled to half of the assets acquired during the marriage.

This common matrimonial property regime is available not just to Franco-German couples, but also to couples living in France or Germany or whose matrimonial property regime is subject to French or German law.
